WhichAffiliate Review
We have purchased advertising from WhichAffiliate (whichaffiliate.com)
and many others.
Want to know how WhichAffiliate "stacks up"
before you invest your marketing dollars? It will definately
be worth your investment and your time.
Update: WhichAffiliate
was recently acquired by a new owner. So, we are pleased
to announce that the unscrupulous previous owner (Jason)
is no longer able to rip anyone off.
The new owner seems to be a very professional, patient,
helpful, and honest businessman. He contacted us to let
us know of the sites' transition, make-over (looks much
better now), and that he will be taking good care of his
customers -whereas Jason did not.
We have not advertised with WhichAffiliate while under
the new management, but we imagine that they will give
you a fair deal and will work with you to get the most
for your money.
WhichAffiliate Campaign
Update: Please
note that this review is no longer accurate, but is provided
here only as a reference of how Jason (of Search99.com
and Earthboundcompanies.com
treats his clients)
We purchase advertising on all types from a variety of
sources. WhichAffiliate was one of our "Affiliate
Program" advertising campaigns. We always track all
results using HyperTracker -a tried and PROVEN method
for tracking campaigns.
We have successfully used HyperTracker to increase our
profits considerably. We have compared the results of
HyperTracker to the actual logs kept by some of the Pay-per-click
Search Engines, and the results have always matched perfectly.
So, we trust HyperTracker
results as True.
Now, the reason we mention all of that is because the
WhichAffiliate Webmaster, Jason, continuously wasted our
time debating the effectiveness in HyperTracker's ability
to adequately track visitors. Why was this in question?
Because WhichAffiliate touted having a HUGE number of
visitors per month (which did not match up with WhichAffiliate's
Alexa ranking, but we thought --what the heck-- we'll
give it a shot), and they also specifically mentioned
in their "advertising blurb" that another one
of their vendors received a significant amount of signups
and clickthroughs. The problem is that we received no
more than 4 unique visitors per day from WhichAffiliate!
For the extremely high price per month and the figures
touted in the WhichAffiliate email, our expectations were
set to expect a great deal of traffic. Even in a worst
case scenario, I NEVER pay a third-party website MORE
per click than I would pay a well-established Pay-per-click
[PPC] Search Engine. In WhichAffiliate's case, I paid
more than TEN (10) TIMES the norm!
WhichAffiliate Return on Investment [ROI]
So, let's break down the cost and effective ROI (Return
on Investment) of a WhichAffiliate Promotion Campaign:
1. We took the $745/3 months package deal.
2. For $745/3 months or $248/month, I would have been
able to easily purchase more than 33 targeted visitors
per day. That is assuming that I had to pay the highest
price I would ever willingly pay for the type of traffic
WhichAffiliate was sending us... So, I believe this to
be very generous and very fair.
3. For a non-PPC, third-party site; I expect at least
300% more traffic than from a PPC Search Engine or I do
not renew my campaign. So, in order to see Value from
this WhichAffiliate campaign, we need to see about 100
visitors per day (minimum).
The Results?
We received roughly 1-5 unique visitors per day.
In an effort to be fair, I allowed WhichAffiliate ample
time to optimize our campaign and gave my feedback timely
enough to test out new ideas on increasing effectiveness.
The problem wasn't the campaign... it was the type of
traffic or lack thereof.
On my first mention to WhichAffiliate that I would request
a partial refund, if the WhichAffiliate campaign didn't
pick up; I was told that another advertiser (an adult
link) was receiving a TON of traffic and that it was my
affiliate link and banner that were the problem.
So, after everything I've seen... assuming that it is
TRUE that the other advertiser really received that much
traffic; I can only deduce that most of the traffic being
taken in by WhichAffiliate was "adult" in nature
or not anywhere near as highly targeted as WhichAffiliate
claims.
I have never had an issue getting a partial refund on
any of my failed campaigns in the past, but when I asked
for a refund from WhichAffiliate, I was given excuse after
excuse. Moreover, I was made to believe that my tracking
method was to blame.
So, in response (being more than fair), I spent considerable
time to test our links and compare the tracking of the
links (both banner and text). Both worked and reflected
the proper IP and cookie information. I emailed this information
to WhichAffiliate, but they wrote it off and suggested
that our HUGE increase in Alexa rankings were due to our
WhichAffiliate Campaign!
Not Hardly. We were running six (6) other, even larger
campaigns at the same time we started the WhichAffiliate
Campaign. The difference is that those campaigns paid
off (most of them). From our tracking, we could see hundreds
of visitors from other sites, but only a handful from
WhichAffiliate. Even when presented proof, WhichAffiliate
denied everything and said that our tracking method was
to blame.
After my initial serious refund request to WhichAffiliate,
we saw about 100-200 visitors for a couple of days (partially
from our WhichAffiliate link and partially from a PPC
campaign set up on Search99.com to help offset the failing
WhichAffiliate campaign).
That sounds good, right? Wrong. When we check the traffic
logs and our HyperTracker stats, we saw that 98% of the
visitors were all from the SAME IP address. This implies
that one person sat there and clicked over-and-over. I
don't know what the case was, but it wasn't quality traffic!
I was always professional and courteous, but WhichAffiliate
on multiple occasions "lashed out" towards me
in anger at the thought of giving a partial refund.
WhichAffiliate Conclusion
I was being overly generous when I offered to take only
the last two months as refund. When calculating our Cost-per-click
[CPC], we found that we were paying roughly $3/click.
I can buy just about ANYTHING for $3/click! That is NOT
a good value.
However, WhichAffiliate denied my refund request and
simple proceeded to say how they fulfilled their end of
the agreement and spent too much time on our WhichAffiliate
campaign already (which is in no way our fault).
How could they have fulfilled their end of the bargain
after only one month?
That's right! They couldn't. WhichAffiliate's final response
was that they were not going to give the refund under
any circumstances and that they would continue to display
our link as agreed. That is 100% AGAINST our wishes. We
were more than fair and more than willing to work with
them, but when a company just doesn't deliver --Enough
is Enough!
WhichAffiliate has shown their true colors and they're
not pretty. I warned that I would post my 100% honest
review for all of our marketer friends to know about their
unscrupulous business practices. So, I am hopeful that
I can save other marketers from the month long of heartache
I went through. Don't risk it. Save your money. It will
be better spent elsewhere.
Fortunately, as of this posting, there apparently anyone
advertising with WhichAffiliate. A quick look at the links,
company names, and owners will reveal that the "so-called"
advertisers on WhichAffiliate (at least at this moment)
are really just links to other companies owned by them.

Wesley Tomas
