At one point, I founded and single-handedly built another technology company from scratch and managed to find about $150,000 in Venture Capital from past clients that trusted me. I was barely making enough to get by, but I invested what I had, my time, and about $150,000 that I was able to pull from credit cards and lines of credit I had built up.

I had two partners that had offered their time, their numerous contacts, their finances, and their credit in exchange for equal ownership rights. After lengthy discussions, we were all agreed.

That business was making over $18,000/month when I last checked a few years ago. However, I never saw any profit from it. In fact, I recovered only a portion of my investment and none of the money invested by my trusting clients. The partners turned out to be very unscrupulous and took off with the money and the business.

My name was on the papers and legally spelled out very clearly that I was 33% owner, but lawyers do not tend to trust a 22 year old (at the time) over two, established 50-60 year olds --one of whom had already made himself a millionaire and had some crafty, unscrupulous lawyers to fight his dirty battles.

So, although the lawyers DID lead me on enough to steal $10,000 from me; I was eventually told that I didn't have a case. No one would take my case. It was very sad. The main reason I spent the money on the lawyers was simply to recover the money for my trusting client investors. They still trusted me and were aware of whom to blame; but I still wanted to do my part.

Eventually, I realized that the fight was draining me and I moved on with life. I let those liars get away with their deeds, and I'm sure that happens more than not in today's world.
