Thinking up a Great Domain Name
Finding a good domain name can be an arduous task. Or,
like most people, you might have ended up choosing some
unrelevant or difficult to remember domain name (not easily
brand-able).
Being easy to brand or easy to remember may not be an
issue depending on what your offering and the methods
you plan to use for marketing.
For instance, the domain name: marketinghwy.com
is not a good domain for "brand-ability." But,
it does contain the keywords we target. So, it is very
relevant. The fact that it is not brand-able isn't important
to us because we use direct marketing to bring visitors
to our site.
That means that our visitors find us through search
engines, safelists, or other email campaigns. However,
if it is important for your visitors to return to your
site over-and-over again; it may need to be in factor
in your choice for a domain name.
After you've decided on a few basic keywords, you'll
need to decide if you would like to keep it short (for
brand-ability) or if it will not be a factor. You then
basically have two options in purchasing a domain name:
- Purchase a new domain name - thinking
up a domain name that isn't already taken can be a real
chore, but is the cheapest method. For instance, a domain
name through Network Solutions is $35 per year or Doster
for $14.95 per year. The problem with those companies
is that their support leaves a lot to be desired. And
for that reason, we recommend 1site.net who offers superior
support AND only charges $14.95 per year.

- Purchase an expired domain name -
if you have the time or the budget, then this is definately
the way to go. You can occasionally pick up good names
(for brand-ability) at a low-cost OR you can find names
with existing links and traffic.
Links help with search engine ranking and existing traffic
means you'll get targeted leads instantly -before you
even start marketing your site! The competition for
these types of names means that it'll be tough to get
them and in many cases will have to pay more for them
in an auction.
Occasionally, you can find domain names that are both
"brand-able" and already have existing traffic.
These are the "treasures" of the expired domain
game, but because of the competition for them; they
will command a premium price.

on expired
domain name purchasing.
